County Reads Authors Festival 2024

The County Reads Authors Festival is an annual literary festival held in Picton, Prince Edward County. The festival begins this year with the hugely popular County Reads, our version of Canada Reads, where 5 brave contestants debate the superiority of their chosen Canadian books.

County Reads is followed by 2 days of author events, focusing on Canadian authors who have achieved excellence in their field, or who represent excellence among emerging voices in Canadian literature.

Thursday, April 18, 7:00pm,  County Reads – The Great Debate (5 brave County residents defend their chosen Canadian books. Moderated by Ken Murray.  Presented live at St. Mary Magdalene Church. 355 Main Street, Picton.) Admission $10.

Friday, April 19, 8:45am, Peggy Collins, author of Harley the Hero, readings and discussion of her book and an art lesson for local school classes of children grades 1-3, at the Picton library. This is free for school children classes (must reserve in advance).

Friday, April 19, 2pm, Terry Fallis readings and discussion of his book, A New Season – at the Picton library.

Friday, April 19, 7pm, Charlotte Gray readings and discussion and media presentation of her book, Passionate Mothers, Powerful Sons – at the Picton library.

Saturday, April 20, 2pm, Roy MacGregor readings and discussion of his book, Paper Trails – at the Picton library.

Saturday, April 20, 3pm, Bruce Sudds readings and discussion of his book, The Song of O’Sullivan’s Chain –  at the Picton library.

Admission to the individual author events is $20, or a pass for all 4 events can be purchased for $60.

This year, all of the festival author events will be presented live and in-person at the beautiful newly renovated and expanded Carnegie library in Picton.
