Learn to Play Cello Course for Adults

May 12 @ 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 5:00 PM on Thursday, repeating until May 26, 2022

Learn the fundamentals of cello playing in a welcoming, group setting with Amber Walton-Amar! This course is designed for those with no musical background and no prior experience with the cello. Through a variety of games and exercises, participants will first learn about proper setup, including healthy body alignment, good bow usage, and appropriate left arm positioning. Once a strong foundation is established, Amber will introduce strategies to help guide participants towards creating beautiful tone and good pitch. Repertoire will be drawn from the Suzuki Method, and participants will also explore their creativity through improvisatory exercises drawn from the Creative Ability Development method. Technical work will include scales, arpeggios, tonalizations, and more. Learning together in a group will help reinforce the enjoyment of learning a new skill through the sharing of common challenges and goals. Participants must supply their own cello, but Amber can help you arrange an affordable rental.
