Lynn Vanderherberg

Lynn Vanderherberg is an old soul with a creative spirit bestowed upon her by a European upbringing. As a child, Lynn’s early exposure to art, architecture, culture and cuisine while living in Germany and travelling around Europe with her military family had a monumental influence on her.

Lynn dipped into art and painting early on but didn’t fully dive in until after her four daughters left for university. Her work is a sublime assemblage of surreal skills, a profoundly anchored artistic eye, a love of nature and a passion for all things creative. Lynn remarks, “I see art in everything, especially nature.”

Although mainly self-taught, Lynn eventually enrolled in classes at Loyalist College with instructor and mentor Ron Sayeau. She explored several mediums but repeatedly returned to her beloved watercolours. The kitchen is where she opts to paint and create. Why the kitchen? Lynn spent many of her happiest hours with her mom in the family cookery where she developed an emotional connection with cooking. She’s recently united both her joys for an upcoming cookbook featuring her best-loved recipes and watercolours. For the past 30 years Lynn has created Christmas cards featuring her watercolours, and her work can be purchased at Tall Birches in Port Hope, Lola’s Cafe in Brighton and Carson’s Market in PEC. Now living in Brighton with her husband Gary, she continues to paint, cook and give back to her community by providing young artists with encouragement, sage counsel, seminars and workshops.
