Book Launch in Port Hope

October 26 @ 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM

Free

Marnie Hare Bickle will launch “On Display – The Inuit Carvers and their translator at the 1959 Stratford Festival Exhibitions”

This is the second book compiled by Marnie Hare Bickle to share more of the attic treasures she and her husband discovered in the family home of J. David and Ruth Ford. Her first book, “Native Born Son: The Journals of J. David Ford”, recounts Ford’s early life growing up in the East Arctic, his adventures with friends to hunt food for the community, lonely school years away from home overcoming prejudice of his Arctic heritage and his welcome return to his people and the life he loved.

On Display takes place almost 30 years later. Ford’s days as a Hudson’s Bay Company trapper/trader are over, the distress of army life during WWII has been eased by his marriage to his war-years pen pal and life together on a wooded 7 acres in Canton, Ontario (just north of Port Hope). Adjusting to life outside the Arctic has not been easy and when he is not trying his hand at new moneymaking ventures, he applies for, and is sometimes awarded, government contracts in the East Arctic. On Display is the result of one of these contracts.

Registration is required for this event.
