Screening of the NFB Film Wilfred Buck
October 20 @ 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM
$15.00As part of our Space: Light Years and Dark Matter series, we screen the National Film Board feature, Wilfred Buck.
Wilfred Buck is a hybrid feature documentary that looks to the night sky and one man’s life to tell a story that spans generations. Our guide is the wise and irreverent 65-year-old Wilfred Buck, who’s been called the Indiana Jones of Indigenous star knowledge.
A Winnipeg-based educator, speaker and ceremonial leader in high demand, Wilfred came to his calling through a harrowing history. Displaced from a traditional life on the land for a hydro-electric dam in the 1960s, his youth in a racist town led him into addictions.
Reconnecting to his ancestral ways led him out of the wilderness and into star knowledge, and how he brings these stories to young people, many of whom face the same challenges he once did.
