Why is Space so Important?

In this series, our stellar speakers will explore the origins of the universe, the colonization of space, interplanetary travel, and the latest cosmic discoveries. Tickets are available for individual events or the whole series.

Northumberland Learning Connection welcomes Marc Garneau, the first Canadian to fly in Space in 1984 – 40 years ago.

Mr. Garneau was President of the Canadian Space Agency from 2001-2005. He was elected to Parliament in October 2008; he was Minister of Transport from November 2015-January 2021, and Foreign Affairs Minister until October 2021.

He is a Recipient of the NASA Exceptional Service Medal (1997), three NASA Space Flight Medals (1984, 1996, 2000), and eleven Honorary Doctorates. Mr. Garneau was named a Companion of the Order of Canada in 2003 and served as Chancellor of Carleton University from 2003 to 2008.
