WBFN Speaker Series – Lake Ontario’s Urban Salmon & Trout

September 27 @ 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM

Free

The story of salmon and trout in the Great Lakes is a fascinating one, spanning habitat degradation, overharvest, purposeful stocking, accidental introductions, naturalization, and shifting management priorities. Dr. Kathryn Peiman will focus on six species of salmonids that utilize the tributaries of Lake Ontario during spawning, and are a mix of native and non-native species. She’ll delve into the history of these species, their biology and ecology, management priorities, and how these fish are an amazing success story. If we wish to have millions of people coexisting with these fish, we need healthy watersheds to support both.

Dr. Peiman is a biologist, photographer, and artist. She has studied birds and fish in many countries, and coordinated the Lake Ontario Atlantic Salmon Restoration Program. Currently she is freelancing and has written three books on biology for general audiences.

Registration is required to attend in person. Please use the link in this posting to register or email [email protected]. To attend by Zoom, email [email protected] and you will be provided with the link.
